Twang Fuzz - Getting that Spaghetti Western Sound

Spaghetti Western guitar is a combination of
twangy pickups (the character)
warm, gritty fuzz (the chill up your spine)
and a smattering of spring reverb (open range soul)
A tiny slapback delay gives plucked notes more resonance. A western theme on the box also helps.

P90s and the catalog of TV Jones can get you the pickup character.

The best fuzzes are 60's style Fuzzrite clones.

See my reverb post for recommendations on that.

Now lets discuss the fuzz!

The crown prince of modern spaghetti western marketing is Nocturne. His Seltzerado (aka El Fabuloso Selterzado Fuzz de Los Muertos) is a fine Fuzzrite clone with a loyal following (see the Gretschpages).
$175

The Pierce Custom Instruments Ennio Ultimate is the three-knobber capstone achievement of the incremental Ennio series. Glorious and beautiful, with an excellent build quality and reasonable price. Video below is of the standard - the ultimate adds a variable gain cut.
$160

The Bigfoot FX Spaghetti Western Fuzz is a slightly simpler two-knob box. Middling build quality. Been around for 5+ years.
$140

Catalinbread continues to earn their just deserved praise - the Merkin Fuzz is generally regarded as "excellent". $150

A much pricier alternative is the boutique Mid-Fi Psych Bike @ Musictoyz. Another 60's sounding Fuzzrite clone. It looks nice. Meh.
$225

And finally, Basic Audio's Pale Rider
